Top 5 Reasons You Missed A Lift (+3)

On Saturday mornings at The Lift Gym we practice Strongman/Strong-Woman theme training.

One of the staples on SM/SW days (as well as in our general training) are carries. Carries can be

anything from Get Ups…Yoke Walks…Farmer Walks…Sand Bag Carries…Sled Work/Sand Bag Combos…

Any way, last Saturday one of our tribe women asked me in frustration…”Why was I able to carry 320# last week…

and this week it didn’t budge?” My response: “IDunno…You tell me…” (I’m a wise-ass sometimes…I just am…

one of my many flaws ; ) But I quickly caught my need to acknowledge her query with a ‘I think this deserves

a post in our blog…’ So this is my attempt to acquiesce the question…’Why did I miss a lift?’

Potential reason #1– Last night’s sleep sucked

Potential reason #2-I missed a couple meals yesterday

Potential reason #3-Work…family…school had me stressed out this past week

Potential reason #4-I don’t log my training…so maybe there was more weight on the bar than I remember                                         being on the bar last time I did this lift. (LOG EVERY TRAINING SESSION…REPEAT…LOG EVERY TRAINING SESSION)

Potential reason #5-Your head was totally focused last week…this week…not so much. I say this all the time and I practice this 100% of the time: If you are in the rack… under the bar… or over the bar the only question you should possibly have is how many reps or how far am I going to move this bar. (Note: I made no negative connotations here…The bar is going to move!)

Potential reason #6-You are ‘dieting’ (read: energy deficit) on a progressive strength training program. i.e. you think you can get strong and get lean at the same time. Ah…don’t do that

Potential reason #7-You do yoga twice a week…your own little cardio circuit…a spin class or two…AND you think the iron is going to go up. Hmmm…I don’t think so. You and I have a finite capacity to recover from our common everyday stressors along with these other significant stressors like lifting some really heavy shit a few times a week. Makes sense…right?

Potential reason #8  Friday night…getting slightly banged up at the bar with some buds. ‘Oh shit…I have a training session at 8am?!?…Shit!!’ (I’m not judging here…just don’t do this before a heavy iron morning session ; )

(btw…this post is no where near exhausting…just getting the most obvious ones in)
