Your First Session
Walking into a gym for the first time (or the first time in a long time) is the hardest part — so here’s exactly what happens when you do. No mystery, no pressure, and nobody expects you to already be in shape. That’s what everyone else here once thought too.
How It Works
Talk to Kathy
Everything starts with a friendly conversation. You'll talk through your goals, your history, and any concerns — old injuries, years away from exercise, all of it. You'll see the gym, meet some faces, and figure out which program fits. No pressure, no hard sell.
A friendly movement assessment
Your first session isn't a punishing workout — it's a friendly assessment of how you move today. That's what lets us scale every exercise to your level from day one, so you're challenged without ever being thrown in the deep end.
Your first real workout
Coach-led from the first minute: you'll be guided through every movement, your weights chosen for you, your form watched the whole way. Most people are surprised by how doable — and how welcoming — it feels.
A plan you can see
From there, you plug into the program that fits — small group, large group, or private training — and your progress starts getting tracked. Strong isn't a someday thing anymore; it's on the calendar.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear and bring?
Nothing fancy — comfortable clothes you can move in, supportive sneakers, and a water bottle. We’ll take care of the rest.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
No — that’s what we’re for. Adults 40 and over of all fitness levels start here, and every workout is scaled to your level. The only prerequisite is showing up.
I have an old injury / bad knees / a bad back. Can I still train?
In most cases, yes — tell us everything in your first conversation and we’ll work with it, not around you. Matt holds a Medical Exercise Specialist certification, and training safely around limitations is a core part of how The Lift coaches. (When something needs a doctor’s sign-off, we’ll say so.)
Where are you located and when are you open?
We’re at 413 Railroad Square, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Hours are Monday–Thursday 5:30 AM–7 PM, Friday 5:30 AM–6 PM, Saturday 7–10 AM, closed Sunday.
